Inquiring Sci-Fi Novelists Want to Know

October 23, 2008

The French Cowboy found the name Orson Scott Card on a list of renowned fantasy and sci-fi books. As we all do these days (for good or bad) the French Cowboy checked the Wikipedia article on this author and realised that he also has a column in the Rhino Times Greensboro. That one got checked out as well.

Some of those stories were “nod-at-every-paragraph” experiences. I wouldn’t subscribe to everything M. Card says, but I very much appreciate his honest assessment of politics. He calls himself a Democrat, yet some people in his own party deny him this status – most likely because he has been very critical of the Democratic Party and is with the Republicans on issues like the Iraq War.

Here is an apparently highly popular piece by M. Card: an open letter to local daily papers in which he holds them accountable for biased reporting – or non-reporting – on the Fannie Mae-Freddie Mac crisis. He points out to reporters that “[if] the truth would damage McCain and help Obama, you would be moving heaven and earth to get the true story out there.”
